Vorpalknight Scion

Vorpalknight Scion (Artifact Archetype)

Vorpalknight Scion

The chin-blade of a Vorpal Dragon is the centralizing feature of the majestic beasts - with silver vow and unparalleled edge, it retains vestiges of that dragon's arcane strength, and can become a mighty weapon - willingly or not.

When an arcane dragon is slain, its power and intelligence doesn't immediately leave its body. While dragons are often harvested for magical materials, this is often much riskier with arcane dragons; retained magic can linger in the items themselves, especially if it was central to the identity of the dragon. This is never more true than with vorpal dragons, whose chin-blades are extremely important to the dragons themselves. Those who use weapons fashioned from these blades are dubbed Vorpalknights, harnessing this magic for unmatched might.

A vorpalknight blade comes in two varieties - valiant, and malignant. Valiant blades must come from a dragon who gave their lives valiantly in the defense of others, or willingly donated themselves to the crafting of the weapon. Malignant blades are wicked, brutal implements, spawned by the dragon's being hunted. The anguish of their untimely demise lingers in the weapon, and are thus usually wielded by either the wicked or the ignorant.

In either case, the blades are drawn to those who are not already powerful - as these are the ones with the highest potential, and a vorpalknight who has grown from the very beginning with their blade is a true force to be reckoned with.

Base Weapon Bastard Sword

A vorpalknight blade is the severed chin-blade of a vorpal dragon, worked and fashioned into a weapon of preternatural sharpness, and is either valiant or malignant. It maintains a semblance of the intelligence of the dragon it once was, and becomes bound to the first wielder who uses it to draw blood.

A vorpalknight blade is a +1 wounding bastard sword. While it is made of vorpal dragonscale, its properties closely resemble high-grade adamantine, sharing its benefits and statistics.

Destruction A vorpalknight blade is not initially immune to damage like most artifacts, and can be destroyed as normal, though it is highly durable.
