Dragonscarred Dead

Dragonscarred Dead

Those that go out to pick fights with dragons are not always successful, lauded heroes that bathe in glory and plundered riches like many aspire to. Dragons are powerful things, older than most mortals that challenge them, and to fight one is to face certain death for the unprepared and unlucky. This was your fate…until you stood again, seared with new power. You rose again as an undead known as a Dragonscarred Dead.

Far from being simple undead made only to obey mindlessly, Dragonscarred Dead keep the memories and personality they had before undeath. The magic that rose them keeps them in the dragon's charge while agency allows them to solve problems on their own while a dragon might be away collecting treasure or enacting schemes. Some might try and hold onto the personality they had before falling, while others may choose to let go of their old life, wholly entrenched in their new existence. Others still may find themselves taking after the quirks and personalities of their patron. Regardless of what else embeds into the Dragonscarred Dead, all of them carry the power of the dragon that rose them, a power that makes them fiercer and stronger than they were in life.

Most Dragonscarred Dead are found within the lairs of their masters, but some wander and adventure far from these lairs. They are often working either as agents gathering intel or treasure, or are freed from service due to rebelling or from their master being slain while they remain. Some seek new masters, while others find their new purpose to be slaying any and all dragons in their path whether to stop more of their kind from being created or to amass the same wealth and power held by their creator and become draconic in their own right.
