Arcane Conservation: Mage Bellows

Arcane Conservation: Mage Bellows

uncommon

All magic is shaped somewhere within the caster's body. The heart, stomach, or mind are common places, and even along the surface of the skin. You, meanwhile, shape your spells with your very breath, using your lungs as a bellows to propel arcane energy, granting you an emulation of the dragon's most famous ability.
You gain the Arcane Inhale reaction and Arcane Exhale action. You are considered to be in Arcane Cascade during the rounds you benefit from Arcane Exhale. Hybrid studies and feats that increase the damage bonus of the Arcane Cascade stance (such as laughing shadow), instead increase the splash damage dealt by Arcane Exhale.
If you have Capture Magic and a spell would trigger both Arcane Inhale and Capture Magic, Arcane Inhale grants double the normal resistance to the triggering damage, and you can use Arcane Exhale as a free action.

Trigger you are the target of or within the area of a spell or other magical effect that can deal damage

You draw the excess magic into your lungs where it is stored and transformed for your own use. You gain resistance against the triggering damage equal to the resistance Arcane Cascade would grant.
Arcane Inhale can never be triggered by damage dealt by Arcane Exhale.

Frequency once per round

You breathe out slowly, allowing the ingested magic to intensify before devastating those it collides with. For the next 2 rounds, your melee weapon Strikes gain your choice of the splash or scatter 5 ft. traits, chosen when you use this action. The damage dealt is the damage value of Arcane Cascade instead of any other amount, and the damage type is one type of damage of the spell or effect that triggered Arcane Inhale. These strikes gain the magical trait and the trait corresponding to the damage type dealt.

The Great Inhale

Feat 8

magus

Prerequisites Mage Bellows

You consume so much magic that it reduces the size of the spells you inhale. When you use Arcane Inhale that is triggered by a spell or effect with an area, the area is reduced by 10 feet. If you have greater weapon specialization, the area is instead reduced by 20 feet.
This cannot cause the area to be reduced to less than half its initial size, nor reduced to a size where you are not included in its area.

Area 40-foot cone
Defense varies

You concentrate magic in your lungs, tying your own magical power to that which was captured, before unleashing the torrent of devastation. Each creature in the area takes 8d6 damage of the damage type that triggered your most recent Arcane Inhale, with a basic save. Which save is made is determined by the damage type, and this spell gains the trait corresponding to the damage type dealt. If there were multiple damage types, choose one. You cannot use Arcane Exhale and cast this spell in the same turn.

  • Poison, void, vitality: Fortitude
  • Mental, spirit: Will
  • All other damage types: Reflex

Heightened (+1): Increase the damage dealt by 1d6

Many effects from certain elements (such as Air, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood) deal physical damage, and thus have no trait corresponding to a damage type. In these cases, add the corresponding Elemental trait instead.
This may require noting the the traits of the spell or effect when using Arcane Inhale. When in doubt, use the Metal trait.
