The death of a great dragon never comes quietly, and often not definitively. Their soul too proud, too vast, or too furious to dissolve quietly into the River of Souls, they linger on to the material world.
Maybe you stumbled upon an ancient hoard and something in the darkness recognized you as suitable. Maybe a dying dragon wrapped its final breath around your soul before you could refuse. Or perhaps you sought it willingly — kneeling before a dragon's tomb and offering yourself, driven by ambition, desperation, or grief. Regardless of circumstance, you became their one and only connection to the living world, and they will not squander their second chance.
Dark Archive Living Vessel: This document updates and expands the Living Vessel archetype presented in Dark Archive. As the original has half of its feats locked behind occult or unholy entities, this hereon expansion aims to provide more options that could fit or are unique to a Dragon entity (though a lot of it ended up being a lot more broader.)
Prerequisites Living Vessel Dedication
Trigger You have activated Entity's Resurgence
The entity's awakening brings out a repelling force out of you, damaging and pushing away foes who dared to harm its carrier. Be it a dragons roar or spontaneous growth, each creature within a 5-foot emanation around you takes 2d6 damage, with a Fortitude save. When you gain this feat, choose the damage type: acid, bludgeoning, cold, electricity, fire, piercing, slashing, or sonic. At 5th level and every 2 levels thereafter, the damage increases by 1d6.
Critical Success The creature is unaffected.
Success The creature takes half damage.
Failure The creature takes full damage and is pushed 5 feet away from you.
Critical Failure The creature takes double damage and is pushed 10 feet away from you.
Prerequisites Living Vessel Dedication
Trigger You have activated Entity's Resurgence
Unable to afford losing its vessel, your body surges with protective wings, tentacles, or other means of shielding. You gain a +2 circumstance bonus to AC until the start of your next turn. You also gain temporary Hit points equal to your level that last for 1 minute in addition to those from Entity's Resurgence reaction, for a total equal to twice your level + your key attribute modifier.
Prerequisites Living Vessel Dedication; your entity is a dragon
You have grown a layer of scales under your skin and are able to shed in an instant. When you are unarmored, the scales give you a +2 item bonus to AC with a Dexterity cap of +3. The item bonus to AC from these scales is cumulative with armor potency runes on your explorer's clothing, the mystic armor spell, or bands of force.
Entangling Molt Frequency once per day; Trigger You are hit by a melee Strike. Effect You molt your upper layer of skin and entangle your attackers weapon. The attacker must attempt an Acrobatics check against your Fortitude DC. On a failure, attacking with the weapon has a -2 circumstance penalty until its wielder spends an action Interacting with the weapon to untangle it from your molt. On critical failure, the attacker loses grip of the weapon and it falls to the ground, entangled in the molt as on a normal failure.
Prerequisites Entity's Strike; your entity is associated with an element
Frequency once per day
Your entity's power surges through your attacks. Until the end of your next turn, your unarmed attacks deal an additional 1d6 damage. When you gain this feat, choose the damage type: acid, cold, electricity, fire, or sonic. Also, whenever you get a critical hit with an unarmed attack, you get its critical specialization effect.
When in Entity's Resurgence, you can use this action as a free action.
Prerequisites Living Vessel Dedication
Frequency once per day
You are able to force the entity within to come out and grant you its powers. You activate Entity's Resurgence, gaining its effects while remaining at your current Hit Points. While your body is under entity's control, you are able to interrupt a given action your entity chooses to do if you succeed on a Will save with a hard DC for your level. You cannot activate Entity's Resurgence again for the next 10 minutes. Using this action repeatedly may cause permanent changes to your body or psyche as you become more willing to call on the entity's powers and will.
Prerequisites Living Vessel Dedication
Your entity gives you the ways to enter its domain. Over the course of 10 minutes, you are able to sequester yourself in an extradimensional space. If your entity allows, other creatures within 30 feet can enter this space as well. The affected creatures become intangible and senseless while their consciousness appears in your entity's domain, such as a dragon's lair or a devil's den. The domain has the planar traits of GMs choosing, but often it has the finite and metamorphic traits. Whatever happens inside of the plane reflects on your physical bodies, including exploration activities, rest, or death. You can stay in this space for up to 8 hours, and can Dismiss this effect to return early.
Prerequisites Living Vessel Dedication
Requirement You have activated Entity's Resurgence this round
Frequency once per day
The power of the entity is too much to contain, transforming your body into its avatar! You gain the effects of an aspect form or battle form spell as appropriate for your entity, such as Dragon Form for a dragon entity. The spell is heightened to a rank equal to half your level rounded up.
Prerequisites Living Vessel Dedication
Requirement You take damage that would reduce you to 0 Hit Points
Frequency once per day
Your connection to your entity is so resilient to be able to save you from even the mightiest of blows. Just before taking the triggering damage, you are encased in a magical chrysalis and gain temporary Hit Points equal to 5 times half your level. If you have Hit Points remaining after gaining these temporary Hit Points, you aren't knocked unconscious, nor do you suffer the other effects of being reduced to 0 Hit Points. These temporary Hit Points last for 1 round, and are paralyzed while you have these temporary Hit Points.
Prerequisites Living Vessel Dedication; your entity can manipulate time
Requirement You would be killed or reduced to 0 Hit Points
Frequency once per week
Your entity actively prevents timelines in which its vessel is doomed to destruction. If you would be reduced to 0 Hit Points, you remain at 1 Hit Point. If you were to be killed, the event that happens miraculously doesn't kill you. Once you have activated this ability, you also cease aging. Frequent use of this ability can attract the attention of both time dragons and hounds of Tindalos.
Art of Retaliatory Outburst and/or Protective Surge. A dragonblood character roaring out as ephemeral visage of wings and claws explode outward, perhaps also including a draconic face behind them.
